Thickness Testing

Ultrasonic thickness testing is a non-destructive examination method used to accurately measure material thickness and identify areas affected by corrosion, erosion, or wall loss. This allows clients to monitor asset condition, evaluate remaining service life, and make informed maintenance decisions.

Flaw Detection (Shear Wave Inspection)

Shear wave ultrasonic inspection is used to detect and evaluate surface and subsurface discontinuities, particularly in welds and critical components. This technique provides accurate information regarding defect size, shape, and orientation while requiring access from only one side of the component and minimal surface preparation.

Automated Corrosion Scanning (AUT)

Automated Ultrasonic Corrosion Scanning uses mechanized scanners and advanced ultrasonic technology to create detailed thickness maps of inspected areas. These colour-coded scans provide comprehensive corrosion data, allowing engineers and inspectors to evaluate material loss, calculate remaining life, and plan maintenance strategies.

Magnetic Particle Testing

Magnetic particle testing is a non-destructive examination method used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials, including welds, castings, and forgings. The process involves magnetizing the component, applying magnetic particles, and analyzing the patterns formed where particles are attracted to magnetic leakage fields caused by imperfections.

Clarity Rope Access provides both visible and fluorescent magnetic particle testing methods in the field. Our technicians are trained in accordance with written practices compliant with ASNT SNT-TC-1A standards, ensuring reliable and consistent inspection results.

Liquid Penetrant Testing

Liquid penetrant testing (LPT) is a widely used non-destructive examination method designed to detect surface-breaking discontinuities in non-porous materials. Using the principle of capillary action, a visible or fluorescent liquid penetrates surface openings and reveals defects that may not be visible to the naked eye.


Liquid penetrant testing is an effective means of locating and determining the severity of surface discontinuities in materials, including those that are not visible to the naked eye.


LPT is a highly effective and sensitive method for detecting fine surface-breaking discontinuities, including defects that may not be visible during standard visual inspections, such as:

    • Fatigue cracks
    • Hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC)
    • Stress-oriented hydrogen-induced cracking (SOHIC)
    • Stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
    • Surface porosity and pinholes

Ferrite Testing


Ferrite testing is a fast, accurate, and cost-effective method used to measure delta ferrite content in austenitic and duplex stainless steels. Proper ferrite levels help maintain the balance of ductility, toughness, corrosion resistance, and crack prevention required for reliable material performance.


In high-temperature, high-pressure, and corrosive environments, maintaining proper metallurgical integrity is critical. Accurate ferrite measurements help prevent issues such as solidification cracking and corrosion-related failures in stainless steel welds, piping, plates, pressure vessels, and petrochemical components.

Ferrite levels that are too high can reduce ductility, toughness, and corrosion resistance, particularly at elevated temperatures. Conversely, insufficient ferrite content can increase susceptibility to hot cracking and reduce weld strength in duplex stainless steel applications.

Clarity Rope Access provides field ferrite testing to verify fabrication quality and ensure welds and repairs meet applicable client and material specifications. Our technicians utilize the Fischer FMP30C for reliable ferrite measurements in both shop and field environments.

Hardness Testing


Clarity Rope Access can provide shop or field digital hardness testing to ensure material compliance with specifications before and after welding or heat treatment. Clarity uses the BAQ AlphaDur Mini, the new and improved replacement for the discontinued MIC 10. The AlphaDur Mini allows for the testing of machine parts, weld seams, HAZ, coatings, and hardened parts, even in difficult to access locations and at various angles.

The values that can be measured for are : HRC, HV, HB, HRB and Tensile Strength. The AlphaDur Mini is compliant with Measuring in accordance to DIN 50159 and ASTM A1038
